Duties and Responsibilities: a specialty within the dental profession, involves straightening teeth and correcting bites. As an orthodontist, you are responsible for locating problems with the positioning of patients' teeth and with their oral development. You might use x-rays or plaster molds of your patients' teeth to do this.

Salary: $160,000 - $227,490

Education: In order to become an orthodontist, students need to complete four years of dental school. Coursework in dental school includes anatomy, physiology and microbiology, as well as classes that apply more specifically to orthodontics, such as dental anatomy and occlusion, pediatric dentistry and dental materials.

Demand for this particular career: Demand for dental services will increase as the population ages, cosmetic dental services become increasingly popular, and access to health insurance continues to grow.

Optometry Technician

Duties and Responsibilities: Special testing – visual fields, fundus photography, slit lamp photography, optec vision screener. Also responsible for processing patient's information through the computer system and helps maintain the operation of the reception records and examination room area.

Salary: $37,984

Education: High school diploma required, training programs and associate degrees. 

Demand or Needs:  The employment outlook for optometric technicians, who fall into the larger category of medical assistants, is quite good; according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in this field will grow by 23% from 2014-2024. The median annual earnings in 2015 for workers in this field were $30,590.

Medical Career Research

Duties and Responsibilities: Optometrists mainly perform vision tests and analyze results. They also diagnose sight problems such as nearsightedness or farsightedness, and eye diseases. To add on, they prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other visual aids, and if state law permits, medications.


Salary: $98,000-$103,000

Education: Doctoral or professional degree

Demands or needs: Optometrists own and operate their own practices, it's important for them to have good business, accounting and managerial skills. Being able to multitask, delegate and communicate effectively is critical as well.

Reflection: Based on the information that was given to me I would not like to be an Optometrist due to that fact that it is a job that I am not interested in this career
